The Question Markup Language (QML) provides the training and education sectors with their own open and platform independent method of maintaining questions for use in tests and assessments. It is expected that that this standard will encourage growth by allowing the best authoring systems to produce QML for the best delivery systems.
Questionmark has made this new language freely available on these pages, for anybody who wishes to use it. As an open standard Questionmark believes that QML can provide greater growth opportunities for everybody working with test and assessment software.
The new language offers an extensible solution that is precise, flexible and relatively easy to use. Anybody who has already mastered HTML should feel quite at home with QML.
The release of QML means that computer software developers will now be able create new applications with question bases that are fully compatible with those of Questionmark's. QML describes questions and answers in tests, independently of the way they are presented. This makes it extremely powerful because the same question database can be used whatever computer platform or operating system is chosen.
