Title: Automated testing of assessment delivery performance using JMeter

Synopsis:

JMeter is an open source tool for performance testing of web applications. Using this tool we developed a script to test the complete process of taking online assessments, including generating an answer to most question types.

This script can not only be used for stress- and performance testing your Questionmark servers, but also for testing the integrity of your online assessments.

In the session the construction of the script will be explained (the script itself will be available as well). I’ll discuss the complete testing process we use at this moment, the testing parameters (which can have a great influence on test results) and of course some of the test results itself.

Learning Objectives:

  • Have a better understanding of the way a performance test on QMP-servers is carried out and what you can expect of such a test (and what not!)
  • Know how (better) to interpret the results of stress- and performance tests on QMP-servers.
  • Eventually be able to set up this kind of testing within their own institution.
