BASIS

BASIS is an independent standards-setting and auditing organization for the pesticide, fertilizer and allied industries

Online assessments have enabled us to administer more quizzes, tests and surveys while saving time and money,’ remarks Julius. ‘People are able to stay on the job more, because they can use e-learning resources and take assessments at the times most convenient for them.

Executive summary

BASIS, like most organizations, was disrupted by COVID-19. Lockdowns meant in-person testing was not possible. BASIS accelerated its move online with Questionmark and introduced Proctoring Record and Review to be able to test and validate candidates and professionals remotely. Due to its success, BASIS could continue to deliver its industry critical assessments.

Challenges

BASIS is an authority in training, certification, auditing and standards-setting. It plays a key role in the training and certification of people who work in the pesticide and fertilizer sectors. It offers a range of examinations and recognized qualifications and operates an annual inspection scheme to audit pesticide stores.

While BASIS delivers a number of online examinations, many of their accredited examinations involved the testing of candidates offline in a classroom.

BASIS had been working with Questionmark to house its assessment content for many years and used it as a way to demonstrate compliance and due diligence in the authoring process to Harper Adams University, which accredits BASIS qualifications.

When COVID-19 struck and with lockdowns in place, BASIS faced the challenge of continuing to offer examinations to support the industry and ensure the relevant qualifications continued.

How Questionmark helped

In May 2020, BASIS adopted Questionmark Proctoring Record and Review to ensure it
could still serve its purpose in the industry by validating professionals while lockdowns were in place.

Questionmark Record and Review is a secure proctoring system that allows organizations to offer remote assessments under exam conditions. The automated system observes and records the exam session on video and flags potential anomalies (such as a second person on screen) that can be reviewed by the customer later.

Record and Review helped BASIS continue offering examinations by allowing it to continue testing remotely while still providing a participant experience that was similar to face-to-face.

A pleasure to work with Questionmark to install the new Proctoring Record and Review software, very quick turnaround to ensure we could continue examinations.

Results, return on investment and future plans

For BASIS, the main concern was its ability to give people the option to take exams and become validated during the pandemic. Questionmark Proctoring Record and Review allowed it to do this

The results proved to work very well for BASIS and their customers have been very happy with these new processes in place.

The initial advice, installation, training and continuous support from Questionmark has been fantastic, very pleased with the entire process and we look forward to continue working with you. Thank you to all involved
