Staff assessments enable employers to make informed and explicable decisions on working arrangements

TRUMBULL, CT — March 16, 2021 — The best staff could be prepared to jump ship if their employer won’t allow them to work remotely after the pandemic ends. However, when staff understand why decisions on working patterns and policies have been made, they are more likely to cooperate, even if they don’t agree.

Questionmark, the online assessment provider, has released a new report exploring how employers can make the best decisions on the right post-pandemic working arrangements.

The report, “Managing a Post-Pandemic Workforce: creating productive and informed working arrangements”, highlights the risk that workers could leave their jobs for a better working arrangement if they cannot continue to work flexibly from home.

When things look brighter, the staff with the most sought-after skills will be the most likely to move on.

The report cites research that found:

  • Over 60% of US workers will prioritize job opportunities that allow more flexibility, according to a survey from job platform LiveCareer.[1]
  • Almost a third (29%) said they would quit if they could not continue to work remotely.[2]
  • One in four British office workers have claimed they would resign if flexible working policies are revoked, according to research by HR software company Personio.[3]

Even at the height of the uncertainty in the pandemic, 24% claimed to be searching for new opportunities.[4]

The report argues that even when workers do not agree with a decision, they are likely to respond better when they understand why it was made. Employers should provide as much evidence as possible to explain their decision.

Measuring the skills of the workforce gives employers the evidence they need to explain their conclusions. They can assess which skills can demonstrably be carried out better in an office or physical workspace or conversely, which can be executed just as well from home.
