How do I answer questions in an assessment?

Answering questions in Perception is a simple case of using the keyboard or mouse to indicate your answers. Each question type has a specific method of being answered but in general it is a simple case of selecting an option button, ticking the correct set of check boxes, typing in your answer or selecting the appropriate answer from a drop down list.

However, there are certain questions that require the user to complete a specific task to mark their answer. Please see the following sections for further details:

In addition to using the mouse certain questions have been specially designed to work with various keyboard shortcuts to make answering them easier. Please refer to the following Knowledge Base article for more details:

Drag and Drop

The Drag and Drop question allow you to place any number of graphical markers on a background graphic to indicate the answer.

The markers can be moved by clicking the mouse on the marker and dragging it to the desired location before releasing the mouse button.

Hotspot

The Hotspot question allow you to place a single graphical marker on an image to indicate the answer.

The marker can be moved by clicking the mouse on the marker and dragging it to the desired location before releasing the mouse button.

Spoken Response

The Spoken Response question allow you to record a message in response to the question. You will need to have a microphone available to record your answer and speakers or headphones available to hear your answer played back to you.

You will also need to ensure you have the Java Virtual Machine Version 1.6 (Version 6 Update 16) or later installed on your computer for the player to be displayed.

File Upload

The File Upload question allows you to upload a file in response to a question.

Some default files that can be uploaded are:

  • Word documents (.doc/docx)
  • Excel documents (.xls/xlsx)
  • Image files (.jpg/.jpeg/.gif/.png/.bmp)
  • Text files (.txt)
  • Sound files (.mp3/.wav)
  • PowerPoint files (.ppt/pptx)

To upload a file:

  1. Click Browse.

The File Upload window opens.

  1. Click Browse again.
  2. Navigate to and select the file you want to upload.
  3. Click Open.
  4. Click Submit to upload the file.
  5. Click Close to return to the assessment.
