6. Install the ETL service on your ETL server

Applies to the following products:
Questionmark Perception
Applies to the following Perception versions:
Perception 5.4

Once you have installed the prerequisites (including a database system) on your ETL server, you can install the ETL service on this server. Copy the installer to that server and follow the steps below.

The ETL service will be installed on your ETL server.

By default, users do not have administrative user rights if you are logged on as a user other than the built-in administrator. This is also true even if you were added to the local Administrators group on the computer (this is a new security feature in Windows Server 2008 called Local User Administrator). If you do not have these privileges, Perception will not install correctly. Log in as the built-in administrator account, or explicitly invoke applications as the built-in administrator by using the Run as administrator command.

You will need to make sure you are logged in as an administrator when completing the installation of Perception.

To install the ETL Services Server:

  1. Launch the installer as an administrative user (see above for details), entering the password when prompted
  2. Select Custom from the Setup Type window
  3. Click Next
  4. Select the ETL Services Server option

  5. Click Next
  1. Choose where you would like to install Perception and the application data, including repository files (please note that the Repository files folder will not actually be created on this server, as it is only needed on the Business Logic tier)

You can keep the default locations or click Browse to indicate an alternative path.

  2. Click Next
  3. Click Install

If you are using Oracle as your database system and plan on installing the ETL service on a different server from the temporary ETL database, there are a few things you must do to ensure that the ETL service and the ETL temporary database can communicate with each other as well as the rest of Perception.

To split up the ETL service and the ETL temporary database on different servers (Oracle only):

  1. Install the ETL service on the server you desire as usual, following the instructions above.
  2. The server which you install the ETL service on must have SQL*Loader (sqlldr.exe) installed. To install SQL*Loader to this server, use the Oracle Universal Installer and install Oracle Database Utilities through the custom installation option.
  3. Ensure that all the tnsnames.ora files are identical among hosts and point to the same Oracle instances, as well as are aware of all Oracle connections in order for database links to function
  4. Continue with your multi-tiered installation and configuration of Perception be following the link below.
