  Questionmark Perception Authoring

Authoring

Overview
Questionmark™ Perception™ allows you to easily create, modify and delete questions and assessments. You can author questions and assessments using a Windows-based program or a browser with a server-based system. Windows-based authoring, which requires that software be installed on your PC, provides a powerful environment for creating simple and complex questions and assessments. Perception's browser-based authoring tool offers much of the functionality available in the Windows-based tool while enabling easy wide-scale deployment.

Authoring Manager
Questionmark Perception Authoring Manager is a Windows-based application that enables training professionals, instructional designers, educators and subject matter experts to author questions, organize them into assessments, and store and edit them within local or remote databases called repositories. Authoring Manager features include:
  • Wizards for 22 different types of questions
  • Role-based security for multi-author environments
  • Wizards for assembling questions into assessments
  • Question and assessment editors
  • Ability to use audio, video, Macromedia Flash and Captivate simulations in questions
  • Fields for authoring content-embedded feedback or linking to external learning resources
  • Workflow management

Browser-Based Authoring (BBA)
Browser-Based Authoring runs on the Perception server, which can be installed on your hardware or hosted by Questionmark. BBA enables authors to create many of the same question types possible with the Windows-based Authoring Manager. Authors can create questions and assessments from a distance without installing any software on their computers.

Questionmark Word Authoring Templates
With Questionmark Word Authoring Templates, your subject matter experts (SME) can use Microsoft® Word to author assessment questions that can be imported, delivered and managed using Questionmark Perception. Once the SMEs have authored questions using Word on either a PC or a Mac, they email their questions to an administrator who publishes them into Questionmark Perception.

Defining the Look & Feel of Assessments
Questionmark Perception enables you to define the look and feel of your assessments by using Perception’s built-in templates containing markup tags. These templates define the stylistic characteristics – font, colors and graphical elements – of your assessments. Use Perception templates to match the appearance of assessments to the look and feel of your company’s website and learning content without having to adjust the questions or assessments. About 20 templates are provided with the system, and these can be copied and edited with Notepad or a Template Editor provided with the Windows-Based Authoring software. Perception also supports Style Sheets, which enable centralized control of an assessment’s look and feel and can be used to control accessibility of assessments.
