Perception for Windows Provides New Online Delivery Options

STAMFORD, CT – October 24, 2000 -- Question Mark™ Perception™ -- the leading software tool for delivering assessments via the web – is now available for Windows users who prefer run-time delivery of their questions.  QM Perception for Windows allows people to deliver assessments using CDs, local area networks, e-mail, or even floppy disks. Free 30-day trial downloads of the new software are available on Question Mark’s website at

http://www.questionmark.com/download/

Perception for Windows enables organizations to maintain a centralized database of items (questions, scores, choices and feedback) and to deliver them via any Windows PC, or print paper copies of the questions.  Users can create multiple question banks, randomizing questions to create individualized assessments if desired. The software also offers 10 question types, adaptive branching, online reporting of assessment results, and question analysis. When a participant finishes answer questions, the answers are written to an encrypted database.  Perception for Window’s standalone reporting software offers five styles of report. Results can also be merged with a Perception for Web database if desired.

“We’ve developed Perception for Windows in direct response to our customers, many of whom wish to have a standalone product that offers Perception’s advanced features together with Windows authoring, delivery, and reporting,” remarked Eric Shepherd, president of Question Mark Corporation. “Now people can deliver assessments on a Windows PC while taking full advantage of Perception’s advanced authoring, presenting, and reporting capabilities.”

The Perception for Windows authoring software runs on any Pentium or better workstation PC with at least 16 Mb of RAM, a Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0/2000 operating system, and Internet Explorer dlls and ODBC installed. Pricing is determined by the number of authors and how the run-time software is installed.  Full product information is available from:  http://www.questionmark.com/perception/pfw.aspx

About Question Mark and Perception:
Question Mark has been producing testing and assessment software since 1988, enabling educators and trainers to write, administer, and report on tests, quizzes and surveys securely using individual PCs, local networks, the Internet, and intranets.

Question Mark Perception software allows people to create question files without programming experience or knowledge of HTML. Users can create multiple question banks from which to assemble tests and surveys, organizing questions into topics and sub-topics. They can shuffle questions and answers for each participant and preview sessions to see how they will appear post-deployment. Question types include multiple choice, multiple response, numeric, word response, essay, fill-in-the-blank, matching/ranking, hot spot, drag and drop, and matrix. They can present questions with videos, graphics and a wide variety of styles.

Participants can use a run-time system (with Perception for Windows) or a browser (with Question Mark for Web) to answer questions. For high stakes exams, where the content is valuable, Perception Secure Browser can be used to limit printing, navigation and save-to-disk functions. The participant receives the feedback that the test author has specified. Answers are then saved to a file for scoring and analysis with Enterprise Reporter, which offers a variety of report formats.

Businesses, governments, schools, colleges, and universities in more than 45 countries use Question Mark software. Typical applications include exams, quizzes, study aids, diagnostic tests, pre-course skills assessments, and course evaluations. Question Mark Corporation is actively involved with the IMS Global Learning Consortium and supports open standards. Visit http://www.questionmark.com for more information.
