Questionmark™ Service Pack Offers Cross-Domain Support for SCORM

STAMFORD, CT – June 9, 2003 – Testing and assessment software supplier Questionmark has released a new service pack featuring cross-domain support for SCORM, a faster analytics engine, and more efficient handling of template files and format files.

The Questionmark™ Perception™ for Web Server v3.4 service pack:

  • Provides cross-domain support for SCORM;
  • Offers speedier creation of survey and score list reports;
  • Enables administrators to email their colleagues a URL that can be used to link directly to a specific survey, coaching, transcript or score list report;
  • Allows browser-based authors to upload template files and format files using Resource Manager.

Perception offers flexible reporting facilities with filtering, so making a report involves selecting from various menu options which include filtering by demographics, groups and/or dates etc. This new feature allows users to make a URL that links other users to a specific report without requiring them to retrace the steps of the original user. This is particularly useful if the user wants to send a specific report to a manager, or instructor, who can use the URL to run the report with requiring them to go through the process of specifying the filters and report options.

Perception’s new cross-domain SCORM support makes it possible for a management system and Perception to operate together from different domains. Assessments can be launched and tracked by the management system from one domain, with Perception residing on another domain. The new service pack also makes it possible for the participant to be taken back to a pre-determined URL.

With the new service pack it is also now possible for browser-based authors to upload template files and format files using the software’s Resource Manager module.

About Questionmark and Perception:
Questionmark Perception allows people to create question files without programming experience. Users can categorize their question banks into topics and sub-topics from which to assemble tests and surveys. They can shuffle questions and answers for each participant and preview assessments to see how they will appear post-deployment. They can present questions with videos, graphics and a wide variety of styles. Participants receive feedback as specified by the author. Answers are saved to an encrypted file for scoring and analysis in a variety of report formats.

Some 1,600 businesses, governments, schools, colleges, and universities in more than 50 countries use Questionmark Perception. Typical applications include exams, quizzes, study aids, diagnostic tests, pre-course skills assessments, and course evaluations. Full details are available at www.questionmark.com.

About SCORM:
The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM), produced by the Advanced Distributed Learning organization (ADL), allows the sharing of content through the use of a defined data model and runtime environment. Full details on SCORM can be found at http://www.adlnet.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=scormabt&cfid=149600&cftoken=19925794.

SCORM-enabled assessments are launched by a SCORM-compliant management system. Assessment results are then returned via the SCORM API. All the data needed to start the assessment is passed when the assessment is launched. As SCORM requires that score information is passed back via the browser on the client PC, there is a theoretical risk of the score being altered by the participant. These risks should be evaluated before using SCORM to deliver high stakes assessments.

Questionmark’s latest SCORM support was tested in April, 2003, using the SCORM Conformance Test Suite Version 1.2.3, a. Questionmark completed the Sharable Content Object (SCO) Run-Time Environment Conformance Test which showed the software to be SCORM 1.2 Run-Time Environment Conformant at the level 'SCO-RTE1+Mandatory and Optional.'
