Title:
Defensible Assessments: What You Need to Know

Synopsis:
Defensible assessments are fair, reliable and valid. Their content is well written and appropriate, they are delivered in a secure environment, and they are scored using best practices. Following well respected guidelines and standards in the area of assessment will help make an assessment program defensible by ensuring that best practices have been followed throughout the authoring, scheduling, delivery, and reporting processes. This session will present and discuss approaches to ensure compliance with a number of guidelines and standards documents including:

  • Standards for Educational and Psychological Assessment (AERA/APA/NCME)
  • ISO 17024: General requirements for bodies operating certification schemes for persons
  • NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs
  • Regulatory Principles for e-Assessment (QCA et al.)

This session will examine key issues surrounding assessment defensibility and highlight best practices that can help maximize the quality, security and consistency of medium- and high-stakes tests.
