Scottish colleges choose Perception for national online assessment project
JUNE 2002 - The Scottish Further Education Funding Council (SFEFC) is funding a project to identify best practice in online assessments. Glenrothes College has taken the lead role and began by investing in the leading testing and assessment software, Questionmark Perception, for its own use and for four of the five other partner colleges (1 author and 200 students each). Since beginning the project Glenrothes has upgraded its license to allow 6 authors and 1,000 students access to the system and has delivered its first summative assessment online for final exams to HNC students using Perception. The college now hopes to launch a further three assessments over the coming weeks.
Questionmark Perception has been singled out as one of only products currently available that meets the requirements of the project. Furthermore, its tight integration with all well-known VLEs (Virtual Learning Environments) places Perception at the forefront of a forthcoming project to link assessments with VLEs for Scottish colleges (45 in total).
Graeme Clark, Learning Systems Development Officer at Glenrothes College, says, "Questionmark Perception seemed to be the best bet. It is easy to use, yet it has all of the functionality and flexibility that we needed for this project. We are now looking to use the software for our client satisfaction survey for students to fill in on their views of the college. This is the first of many examples where we will be using Perception for collecting data, as well as for delivering assessments."
