Case Study

Presenters:
John Dermo, e-Assessment Advisor, University of Bradford

Title:
Implementing Online Assessment: Choosing the Correct Path for an HE Institution

Synopsis:
This session looks at how the University of Bradford is working towards reliable and secure large-scale implementation of online formative and summative assessment using Questionmark Perception. It describes how Perception has been used at the institution since 2003, focusing in particular on recent developments using versions 4.3 and 4.4 as part of the University’s e-strategy and associated projects. This includes setting up separate low-stakes (formative) and high-stakes (summative) repositories and server installations, as well as use of the Blackboard connector and experiments in secure delivery (including QM Secure). In addition to covering technical challenges and solutions, the session deals with user and organisational issues related to embedding support processes for computer assisted assessment, for example staff training, rules and regulations and administrative challenges. The session will also report on the outcomes from recent staff and student surveys on e-assessment using QMP.

Objectives:

  • learn about a large-scale implementation of QMP for formative and summative assessment in an HE institution
  • consider a range of challenges facing e-assessment support teams
  • find out what one HE institution's staff and students think of assessment with QMP
