The Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC) have defined a standard mechanism whereby a Learning Management System (LMS) (also known as a Computer-Managed Instruction application (CMI)), can launch an Assignable Unit (AU), an element of instruction or testing to be carried out by another application, and receive notification when the AU has finished, along with performance data detailing score, time taken, etc.
The AICC have defined a web-based version of this protocol, the HTTP AICC CMI Protocol (HACP), allowing communication between the LMS and AU to take place using HTTP, so that the system can function on the Internet, with the student using a web browser.
