Installing the Word Authoring Templates

The Word Authoring Templates can be downloaded from the following location.

Ensure that the Question Authors computers meet the system requirements for the application.

System requirements

The system requirements for Word Authoring Templates are:

• To run Word Authoring Templates on PCs

Either Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2003 or 2007 must be installed. Microsoft Word must be installed as part of the Microsoft Office installation.

• To run Word Authoring Templates on Macintosh computers

Either Microsoft Word 2004 or Word X must be installed.

Running the Word Authoring Template on a Question Author's computer

The process of running the Word Authoring Templates changes depending on which version of Word you are using. The instructions below are provided for:

• Word 97, 2000 and 2003

• Word 2007

Using Word 97, 2000 and 2003 to run Word Authoring Templates

To run the Word Authoring Templates for Question Authors:

1. On your PC or computer system, create a new folder (for example, C:\QuestionAuthoringTemplates)

2. If you are using a Windows PC:

• Copy the QuestionAuthoringTemplate.doc file into the new folder

3. If you are using an Apple Macintosh PC:

• Copy the QuestionAuthoringTemplate.doc file into the new folder

• Copy the QuestionmarkMacOptimize.doc file into the new folder

4. Start Microsoft® Word

5. Click Tools

6. Click Macro

7. Click Security

8. Click Security Level (if the Security Level tab is not already displayed)

9. Click Medium, so that it is set

10. Click Trusted Publishers (or Trusted Sources)

11. Click Trust all installed add-ins and Templates, so that it is checked

12. Click Trust access to Visual Basic Project, so that it is checked

13. Click OK

14. Click File

15. Click Open

16. Navigate to the folder you created earlier

17. Double-click on QuestionAuthoringTemplate.doc to open it

18. Click Enable Macros

A blank screen will be displayed with the Questionmark logo in the top right corner

Also, four items will be displayed in the Word Toolbar, as shown below:

Word Authoring Templates can now be used to author questions for Perception. See the Authoring questions section of this Guide to find out more.

Using Word 2007 to run Word Authoring Templates

The functionality and security in Word 2007 has been improved. To run Word Authoring Templates you will need to:

1. On your PC or computer system, create a new folder (for example, C:\QuestionAuthoringTemplates)

2. If you are using a Windows PC:

Copy the QuestionAuthoringTemplate.doc file into the new folder

3. Start Microsoft® Word 2007

4. Click More Commands from the Quick Access Toolbar

5. Click Trust Center

6. Click the Trust Center Settings... button

7. Select the Enable all macros

8. Place a tick in the Trust access to the VBA project object model check box

9. Click OK
