Version 4 support home knowledge base troubleshooting perception server

Question:

Why can't I restart the Shared Repository Service?

Answer:

When trying to restart the Shared Repository Service from the Shared Repository Manager, it is possible that this may not work. Reasons for this are that the Server platform you are running Perception Server on is currently low on resources (i.e available memory) this is sometimes the case for servers that have been running for prolonged periods, or have many different services running at the same time. When this issue arises it is necessary to either restart the Server, or if this is not an option at present then the services can be restarted manually, from the Microsoft Services Management Console.

It may be neccessary to restart the service if you want to change the system or license settings, or to clear out the memory it is using.

This Knowledge Base article will detail how to go about restarting the Shared Repository Service from the Microsoft Services Management Console.

To open the Microsoft Services Management Console on the server:

  1. Click Start | Run from the menu that appears
  2. In the Run windows that appears type "services.msc" (without the quotation marks) and click Ok

  • Or it can be opened by clicking the icon below, which can be found under Administraive Tools in the Control Panel

To restart the Shared Repository Service when in the Microsoft Services Management Console, do the following:

  1. Locate the Questionmark Shared Repository service

  1. Select the service and either right click it and select restart from the menu, or if available select 'Restart the service' from the left of the window
