Question:

How is the author name set in Authoring Manager?

Answer:

The Perception author name is used to identify the author of a question or assessment or workflow comment, and in a few other places within the software. It can be up to 100 characters of text. You can see the current author name on the Windows caption at the top of the Authoring Manager screen, and in the Created by and Edited by columns for questions in Authoring Manager.

If you are working in a local repository, or in an unsecured shared repository, then the author name used can be set from within Authoring Manager. You can control this from the Tools | Options menu.

If you are working in a secured, shared repository, then the author name is set from the details of the author set up when the administrator name is defined and is not under the author's direct control (unless the author has the capability to edit administrator details).

  • If the first and last names of the author are blank, then the author name used is the administrator login name

  • If the first or last names of the author are set, then the author name used is the first name and last name, concatenated together, truncated if necessary to 100 characters

For example, if an administrator is set up as author316 without a first or last name defined, then the author name will be author316, but if the same administrator has a first name of John and last name of Brown, then the author name will be John Brown.

For more on changing the author's name for questions and assessments, please see the knowledgebase question:
