Best Practice Guide for using Single Sign-On with Perception

QMWISe

Perception is compliant with industry standards such as IMS and SCORM and is AICC certified. For even tighter integration, however, Questionmark Web Integrated Services Environment (QMWISe) is available. QMWISe is a comprehensive web services API that enables registration, management and reporting systems to tightly integrate with Perception. QMWISe enables direct access to more Perception functionality through a single, seamless interface that brings together all aspects of managing and delivering the learning experience. For more information on QMWISe, please refer to:

What is QMWISe, and how do I find out more about it?

For detailed technical information, please refer to the QMWISe Reference Guide.

PIP

Perception Integration Protocol (PIP) is a secure, programming level interface to Perception. PIP enables other programs to start Perception assessments, and enables Perception to call other programs at the end of assessments. When Perception is called by PIP, the call can be authenticated to make sure it is coming from a reliable source, and it's possible to hide all details from the participant. And when Perception calls another program with PIP, the call happens directly from the server, without the participant knowing about or seeing the call.

For detailed information on PIP, please refer to Perception Integration Protocol (PIP) in the Wed Deployment Guide.

Publish to LMS

Publish to LMS enables Perception authors to create Content Package files. Content Package files can be read and imported by LMSs (Learning Management Systems) or other applications, so that Perception assessments can be scheduled or run from an LMS. Publish to LMS is available in Perception version 4.4 and above, and supercedes the Content Packager program.

For more information, please refer to What is Publish to LMS?

Best Practice Guides on integrating with Perception

For general guidance on integrating with Perception, you may find the following Best Practice Guides useful. These guides provide comprehensive guidance on integrating other systems with Perception. We recommend that you consult these guides before you begin integrating your application with Perception.

Best Practice Guide
Description
Integrating with Perception Provides an overview of the different ways for applications to integrate with Perception. Covers the following kinds of integration:
  • Getting data into Perception
  • Launching assessments
  • Allowing administrators single sign-on access to the system
  • Retrieving data out of Perception
Using Single Sign-On with Perception Provides detailed guidance on how to integrate applications with Perception using Single Sign-On (SSO) to authenticate users.

SSO is a mechanism whereby users can access applications to which they have permission, without the need to enter multiple passwords. By using SSO with Perception, already authenticated users can proceed immediately from the calling application to Questionmark Perception. This calling application may be a Portal, management or security system, or custom authentication system.

Launching and Tracking a Perception Assessment from Another Application Provides detailed guidance on how to deploy applications that call Perception to launch an assessment and then securely return the assessment results (launch and track).

You will find this guidance useful if you have an application that authenticates users (i.e. a portal or management system), and you want to securely link these users from your application to a Perception assessment and potentially track the results.

Providing Data To and Obtaining Data From Perception Provides detailed guidance on data integration between third-party applications and Perception

You will find this guide uesful if you have an application that contains data that needs to be used by Questionmark Perception. For example, if you have a Human Resources Management System (HRMS) which already contains your potential assessment takers and/or to which you wish to report some individual assessment results, then you need to consider the integration possibilities for the HRMS database and the Perception database.
