Questionmark Connectors Horizon Wimba Connector

Questionmark™ Perception™ Horizon Wimba Connector

Deliver and Score Spoken Response Questions

Overview

Horizon Wimba develops web-based solutions for the education market that facilitate and promote online spoken responses. These products enable learning professionals to fully embrace and exploit the new wave of pedagogical opportunities afforded by campus-wide networks and the internet, regardless of geographic location, bandwidth or operating systems. Participants have no software or plug-ins to configure or install, and no specialist training is required to use Horizon Wimba tools. All that is needed is a microphone and speakers.

Using the Connector

Horizon Wimba’s voice authoring and voice board tools seamlessly integrate with Questionmark Perception using the Questionmark Perception Horizon Wimba Connector. The Connector works with Horizon Wimba’s Eduvoice and WebLab systems as well as their Spoken Response Manager for Questionmark Perception package.

Through this integration, educators and trainers can author and deliver online questions for people to answer by speaking into a microphone. Horizon Wimba questions can be mixed within the same assessment as other automatically-graded Perception questions. Spoken responses are stored on the voice server, where they are available for grading from Perception. The Questionmark Scoring Tool enables instructors to establish rubrics for the manual grading of spoken responses. Scores for spoken responses can be processed along with other test scores using Perception’s reporting tools.

The Horizon Wimba system works with Perception for Web, but you cannot deliver voice response questions using Perception for Windows. However, you can mix Horizon Wimba questions with regular, automatically marked Perception questions.

Horizon Wimba Connector offers
  • Accurate recording of spoken responses
  • Data storage and scoring within Perception
  • An easy way to administer spoken response tests
  • Complete question editing capabilities

System requirements

Authors and administrators require:

  • Perception Authoring software version 3.4 or higher
  • Perception Server version 3.4.3 or higher
  • Questionmark Perception Scoring Tool. This is an add-on to Enterprise Manager that allows you to score Horizon Wimba questions.
  • Questionmark Perception Horizon Wimba Connector
  • Horizon Wimba Spoken Response Manager (R4.0.8 or higher), Eduvoice (R4.0.7 or higher) or WebLab (R4.0.7 or higher)

For participants:

  • Horizon Wimba recommends the use of headsets instead of external speakers and microphones, particularly the built-in microphones of laptops. Quality is generally limited by the performance of the soundcard and not the headset; for this reason Horizon Wimba recommends the use of USB headsets for older or lower specification machines
  • A suitable browser and Java Virtual Machine

The Horizon Wimba Connector is compatible with Questionmark Secure. AICC and SCORM integrations with other systems work with Spoken Response Manager for launching but not tracking assessments.
