Schlumberger is an international technical company selling products and services that improve the productivity of its customers. The company has three business segments: Oilfield Services, Resource Management Services and Test and Transactions.

Oilfield Services provides a wide range of technical services to the upstream exploration and production industry (international petroleum industry). 

Resource Management Services provides professional business services for utilities, energy service providers and industry worldwide. Through consulting, meter deployment and management, data collection and processing, and information analysis, RMS helps clients to achieve network optimization, greater operating efficiency and increased customer loyalty in all utility sectors - water, gas, electricity and heat. 

Test and Transactions provides integrated solutions for electronic transactions, semiconductor manufacturing and IP networks to customers throughout the world. These solutions integrate technologies, products, services and competencies that are applied to solving customer problems.

After that, another 20 tests must be taken within a 12 to 18 month period. Once again, these tests will play a significant role in the promotions given.

Of course, tests of this kind are applicable largely to the theoretical part of the employees' training. Once that training moves into a more practical phase these tests have a lesser role to play. It is at this stage that a more hands-on approach is taken in the training process.

"Already, approximately 10,000 tests have been taken using Question Mark's Perception and this has enabled us to have a uniform assessment mechanism across the company as a whole. It allows us to take a snapshot of who has done tests and provides us with a central repository for all test information. We have had no major issues with the software to date, and I can see it being used more widely within Schlumberger over time," added Copeman.
